Rockoxhuis (Rockox' house)
This museum is 550 metres away from St. James' church. When you exit turn right into Lange Nieuwstraat, directly again right into St. Jacobsstraat and straight into Prinsesstraat, where you turn left into Keizerstraat and reach the museum nearly at the end of the street.
The Rockox' house is the 17th century patrician house of mayor Nicolaas Rockox (1560-1640). He owes his fame mostly to his friendship with Rubens and the commissions he gave him. This famous mayor's building was bought and restored by the KBC Bank & Insurance Company. They continue their conservation policy with this magnificent example of Flemish culture of living. The Rockox' house is richly furnished with paintings, furniture and object d'arts of the 16th and 17th century.
